What to Expect in Your First Hypnosis Session

You already have the capacity for change. What you bring to this first session - your willingness, your awareness, your readiness to try something different - is already the beginning. This guide is here to give you a clear, honest sense of what to expect so you can arrive with ease and openness.

My Approach

Everything I do in a session is shaped by one understanding: you already have the capacity for change. The patterns you are experiencing were learned, and your system is capable of learning new, more supportive ways of responding. I work with you from the perspective of your full potential, helping your system begin to align with it in a way that feels natural and real.

I Listen Before I Guide

Before any technique, I take the time to understand what your experience actually feels like right now - how these patterns are showing up in your thoughts, your body, and your daily life. We focus on what is happening in the present, because that is where meaningful change begins.

You Set the Pace

You are always in control during this process. We move at a pace that feels right for your system, with ongoing check-ins and adjustments as needed. The process is designed to support a sense of safety, trust, and readiness as your system begins to shift.

Evidence-Based, Personally Attuned

The work I do is grounded in how the unconscious mind and nervous system function - how patterns are learned, repeated, and updated. Alongside the deeper work, I also teach you practical tools and self-hypnosis techniques so you can actively support change outside of sessions.

The Whole Picture, Not Just the Symptom

What you are experiencing is part of a larger pattern involving your thoughts, your body, and your nervous system. We work with how these patterns are showing up now, allowing your system to update them in a way that carries forward.

Arriving for Your First Session

Whether you meet in person in Springfield, VA or connect online from the comfort of your home, each session begins with a calm, collaborative conversation. We clarify what you would like to change and explore how it is showing up for you in your life right now, so the work begins exactly where change is most accessible.

Each session is shaped around you. Your experience, your responsiveness, and your comfort guide the process. Some of the work unfolds conversationally, and some in deeper states of hypnosis. Often, it moves fluidly between the two as change is already being supported in real time.

The Hypnosis Experience

Hypnosis is a natural, focused state of awareness-one you already move in and out of throughout your day. As we work together, you become more familiar with this state and more able to access it with ease.

The process is guided by the Meta-Pattern approach, a somatic method for shifting emotional and behavioral responses by working with how the nervous system organizes experience across past, present, and future. In simple terms, we use the brain’s natural ability to adapt and rewire itself to support sustainable change.

We begin with what is happening for you now, and through this process, your system begins to reorganize how similar experiences are stored and responded to-creating change that naturally extends into how the past is interpreted and how the future is anticipated.

You’ll also be introduced to self-hypnosis, so you can continue reinforcing these shifts on your own and support your system between sessions.

Induction

A guided process of settling and focusing attention, helping your nervous system release into a state of calm readiness.

Deepening

Your awareness turns inward, and your system moves into the receptive state where the deeper work can begin.

Therapeutic Work

Tailored hypnosis and pattern-change techniques aligned with what is present for you, working with how your system holds and updates experience.

Emergence

A gentle, gradual return to full awareness. Most people feel calm, clear, and settled - often lighter than when they arrived.

The hypnosis portion typically lasts 30 to 40 minutes. Most people describe it as deeply peaceful - a kind of focused stillness they did not expect. You may remember everything, or your awareness may drift; both are entirely normal and part of how the process works.

After Your Session

We close with space to integrate the experience and reflect on what has shifted. From there, we outline what supports your continued progress in a way that feels natural and aligned.

Some people notice immediate changes. For others, the shift continues to deepen over time. Both are part of the process.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The process is individual. Some people experience meaningful change quickly, while others choose to continue building on the work overtime.

We’ll discuss what feels right for you as we go, so you always have clarity and choice in how you move forward.
